Homemade Soda – Cream Soda Recipe
I have been wanting to get into making soda for a while now. I find the idea of craft a beverage at home fun and exciting. I have enjoyed making sweet tea infused with spices and cold brewed ice coffee so this is the logical next step. I purchased a book from Amazon that has soda recipes and I at this point have tried two of them. The one in the picture here is a cream soda, which is really simple, including just Vanilla Beans and sugar. The other is a Ginger Ale that is going to need some time to finish brewing since you use champagne yeast to make the carbonation happen.
The only thing that really prevents anyone from making soda at home is the carbonation. You need a way to get the CO2 into the liquid. I used my CO2 tank from my Kegerator and something called The Carbonater which is a ball lock cap for 2 Liter bottles. You can charge the 2 liter bottle and then shake it to force the CO2 into your soda. Prevents you from having to buy a syphon and those CO2 cartridges. You can always just make concentrated soda syrups and dilute them with seltzer water which is how most of soda’s in the book are designed.
We shall see how the soda batches work out. I’ll keep you posted.

You combine all the ingredients into a sauce pan and bring to a boil while stirring. Once it starts to boil take it off the heat and allow it to return to room temperature. Once it has cooled strain out the vanilla bean and store in the fridge.
