Grooveshark Unofficial Desktop App
Grooveshark is one of the best free on-demand music streaming services. Unlike all the other services of it’s kind, Grooveshark subscribes to the no music studio contract but stream anything anyway while allowing content holders to remove their copyrighted content. It’s a miracle that they are still up and running, and that’s why they can afford to be free.
Anyway one of the premium features of Grooveshark is a desktop application that allows you to pull the music player onto your desktop and use the media buttons to control playback which always comes in handy. This unofficial Grooveshark desktop application accomplishes that same effect with some pretty cool features.
For starters the application simply loads the Grooveshark website so the familiar player interface remains the same, but because the code is based on SSB software Fluid you can change the appearance including opacity, Window style, and font face and style.
The app also has Growl support which can give you notifications on what’s currently playing among other things. The player also has a handy miniplayer thanks to open source software Bowtie. Take that and combine it with built in Last.fm support among other niceties and you have yourself a very cool Grooveshark app.
